It’s time we all recognise that what passes for innovation these days is the same kind of theft and abuse as the first three decades of the internet.
This Faustian bargain, where everything of value is free or dirt cheap, has enormous costs. I can’t name a single company today that accurately accounts for the ethical use of content, compensates those who produce their source material, or considers the impact of their greed on humanity today and into the future.
They disregard our individual health and happiness in a mad rush to seize our collective wealth and well-being. They do this because it’s lucrative, and no one says no.
They aren’t changing, and laws and regulations are years away, so we must explicitly opt-out and choose more ethical options. We must become more conscious consumers and spend our time and money on the companies and services that reflect our values.
Where none exist, let’s create them.
